On the first of August, we launched our first-ever "Lake Your Best Shot!" photo contest, hoping to expose what Lake Hopatcong means to those who love it. What we thought would be a modest photo contest developed into a remarkable collection of more than 250 stunning photos of sunrises and sunsets, lake views, wildlife, and people enjoying all that New Jersey's largest lake has to offer.
All submissions had to be taken at Lake Hopatcong or within its surrounding towns (Hopatcong, Jefferson, Mount Arlington, Roxbury) and images ranged from sublime displays of color as the summer sun dipped behind the trees, to ice fisherman carving out a spot on a frozen lake, and everything in between.
Entries were received in the following categories:
Eight winners have been chosen by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, judged on such criteria as originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic merit, and subject matter relevance. With so many exceptional entries, we ‘shuttered’ to think of narrowing them down! Now it's your turn to take a shot at judging by helping to choose a People's Choice winner in each category.
Voting will be open through Sept. 15, at 8 p.m. Each person may vote only once in each category and an email address must be provided to make your selection.
Winning submissions will be featured on a special Lake Hopatcong Foundation 10th anniversary calendar (2022) and winning photographers will be invited on an exclusive photography cruise aboard the LHF Floating Classroom (tentatively scheduled for Monday, Oct. 4, 4:30-6 pm).
Winners will come into focus on the LHF website, lakehopatocongfoundation.org, Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, and will also be notified via email at the address provided at the time of entry.
We hope you enjoy this visual celebration of Lake Hopatcong as a natural, recreational, and community resource. Thank you for voting!
The voting period is now over. Winning entries can be viewed HERE.
