What do you love most about Lake Hopatcong life? As a natural, recreational, and community resource, there are so many things that make Lake Hopatcong special. Here's your chance to share your favorite photo of a spectacular sunset, a heron in flight, that perfect waterskiing shot, or your absolute favorite view of the lake by entering our "Lake Your Best Shot!" 2021 photo contest.
Entries will be considered in the following categories:
Open to everyone and free to enter, submissions will be accepted throughout the month of August. Photos can be submitted from any date, they do not have to be taken during the contest dates. Any photograph that fits into one of the four contest categories, and was taken on or around Lake Hopatcong or within its surrounding towns (Hopatcong, Jefferson, Mount Arlington, Roxbury), is eligible. Entries must be the sole, original work of the entrant and each entrant may submit up to five entries.
Twelve photographs will be selected (by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation and by public votes) and showcased in our 10th anniversary 2022 calendar, which will be available for purchase this fall. In addition, all winning photographers will be invited to join us for an exclusive winners’ photography cruise aboard the LHF Floating Classroom!
So, dig into your photo archives for that perfect shot or grab that camera during that next stunning sunrise. We can't wait to see your best photos and share this visual celebration of all things Lake Hopatcong!

A visual celebration of Lake Hopatcong as a natural, recreational, and community resource. All photos must be taken at Lake Hopatcong or within its surrounding towns (Hopatcong, Jefferson, Mount Arlington, Roxbury).
Entries will be considered in the following categories:
The contest will run throughout the month of August. Submissions will be accepted beginning at 6 a.m. EST on August 1 and ending at 11:59 p.m. EST on August 31, 2021.
This photo contest is open to everyone. Any photograph that fits into one of the four contest categories, and was taken on or around Lake Hopatcong or within its surrounding towns (Hopatcong, Jefferson, Mount Arlington, Roxbury), is eligible. Photos can be submitted from any date, they do not have to be taken DURING the contest dates.
A total of 12 winning submissions will be selected. Winning photographs will be featured on a special Lake Hopatcong Foundation 10th anniversary calendar (2022). Winning photographers will also be invited on an exclusive winners’ photography cruise aboard the LHF Floating Classroom (tentatively scheduled for Monday, October 4, from 4:30 - 6 pm).
Eight winners will be chosen by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, at its sole discretion. Photos will be judged on such criteria as originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, artistic merit, and subject matter relevance. Four People’s Choice winners will be selected by the public from a series of finalists chosen by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation. The selection of choices will be presented for public voting on the LHF website and on the Foundation’s Facebook page during the week of September 10-16, 2021.
Winners will be announced on lakehopatocongfoundation.org on Friday, September 17, 2021, and notified via the email provided at the time of entry.
Free to enter. Each entrant may submit up to five entries. Please contact info@lakehopatcongfoundation.org with any issues regarding photo submissions.
Entrants will be asked to provide the following information in the contest entry process, category to be entered, title of photo, location of the photo, caption, photo description, entrant name, and contact information.
Submitted photos must be high resolution, in .jpeg or .png format, and at least 1 MB but no larger than 6 MB in size. Higher resolution original files may be requested, should an entry be selected as a finalist. Horizontal orientation is preferred (for possible use in calendar without extensive cropping).
Entries must be the sole, original work of the entrant. Entrants may not copy or otherwise plagiarize any portion of the entry from any other source.
All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (cropping, spotting for dust, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color, and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified.
If an entrant is under the age of 18, a minor media release form signed by a parent/guardian must be submitted.
If an entry contains any identifiable person(s) other than the entrant, it is the entrant’s responsibility to obtain permission from the other person(s) depicted in the photo. A subject media release form must be submitted to info@lakehopatcongfoundation.org with PHOTO RELEASE and the photo title as the subject.
Entrants may be asked to supplement their submission with more explanation about the photo or to provide a higher resolution version of the photo anytime during the contest period.
By submitting a photo, you grant the Lake Hopatcong Foundation (LHF) a royalty-free, non-exclusive right in perpetuity to use any image submitted in printed publications, on LHF social media channels, or in any other media. Entries must be the sole, original work of the Entrant. Entrants may not copy or otherwise plagiarize any portion of the entry from any other source. Entries that contain objectionable or inappropriate content, as determined by the LHF in its sole discretion, will be ineligible. Entries may not contain any third-party materials or materials that violate or infringe, or may be at risk of infringing, any third-party rights. If entry contains any identifiable person(s) other than the entrant, A subject media release form must be submitted to info@lakehopatcongfoundation.org with PHOTO RELEASE and the photo title as the subject. If an entrant is under the age of 18, a minor media release form signed by a parent/guardian must be submitted to info@lakehopatcongfoundation.org. All entrants will automatically be registered for the LHF mailing list, which includes special event invitations, digital messages, and a regular e-newsletter. Entrants may unsubscribe at any time.
