This is our second year partnering with Shiseido Americas Corporation on Camellia Day, a company-wide give-back day that engages Shiseido employees all over the globe in volunteerism. Several Shiseido employees in New Jersey live local to our lake, and we were excited to welcome back familiar faces from towns like Hopatcong and Byram (as well as folks from as far away as Essex and Monmouth counties)!
Twenty dedicated Shiseido volunteers met us at Hopatcong State Park on Friday, September 22 to tidy up two trails. One half of the group headed down to the section of the Lake Hopatcong Trail that connects the State Park with Center Street in Landing, via the Morris Canal Greenway. There, they focused their efforts on replacing missing and broken blazes. The other half of the group headed up into the hills at the State Park to clear the park’s White Trail, which was overgrown in some areas and had downed branches and debris in others. The team did a great job cleaning up and improving access, with the added benefit of creating a clearer path for the following weekend’s Lake Loop event, which included a trail run/walk along the White Trail.
Altogether, the group cleaned up and cleared just under one mile of trails and deserves a round of applause! We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteer trail maintainer, Dennis Daly, for helping guide the group that Friday morning.
If you work for a company looking to engage its employees in volunteerism, don’t hesitate to reach out to us to help you plan a meaningful day of service. Email Caitlin@lakehopatcongfoundation.org or call 973-663-2500 to talk through several opportunities.
Finally, fall is a great time to explore our local trails! Visit our trails page to learn more about the Lake Hopatcong Trail’s eleven miles and how best to navigate and enjoy them.
