It's Plastic Free July! We’re excited to join millions of people worldwide in reducing plastic waste this month, and we invite you to participate all month long and beyond to protect our lake and the environment.
Plastic Free July is a global initiative that challenges individuals, communities, and businesses to reduce their use of single-use plastics for the entire month. This movement, started by the Plastic Free Foundation in 2011, aims to raise awareness about plastic pollution and inspire action towards more sustainable practices.
Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. Single-use plastics, such as bottles, bags, straws, and packaging, often end up in our waterways, including Lake Hopatcong. These plastics can break down into microplastics, which harm aquatic life and can even enter our food chain.
