Elena Cobleigh is a member of our lake community who registered for Lake Loop 2022, set a goal of raising $100, and immediately reached her goal! We asked her what inspired her to participate in the Lake Loop and go that extra mile, raising funds to support our work to protect and improve Lake Hopatcong, and this is what she replied…
When I was a little girl, my parents used to take me to Bertrand Island Amusement Park in the summer. That is why I was thrilled to move to my current home on Bertrand Island 2 1/2 years ago. However, my love for Lake Hopatcong really took shape when I was in high school. My Dad would bring my siblings and I here to water ski on weekends. Fast forward to present time, and you can find me fully emersed in the #lakelife at Lake Hopatcong. I’ve been a water scout for two and half years and really enjoyed volunteering on the floating classroom this spring. I’m a pediatric nurse in a private practice, with a husband and two adult children, who can otherwise be found kayaking the lake (as long as it’s not frozen!).
The health of the lake has been a priority for me for years but especially now that I live here. I first heard of the Lake Loop about 5 years ago when my husband, Rob bought me a kayak. But I didn’t participate until 2020 when it was a virtual event due to the pandemic. That is why I am so excited to participate in this year’s Lake Loop now that it will be an in-person event!
Since I moved to the lake, my friends and family often come to visit and enjoy swimming and boating with us during the warmer months, and the beautiful view all year round. So, when I signed up for the Lake Loop, I asked them for donations to support the Lake Hopatcong Foundation. The Foundation’s work is essential to protecting the lake environment and enhancing the lake experience for all of us to enjoy. That’s why it was easy to reach my Lake Loop fund-raising goal.
Elena’s story inspired us, and we hope it inspired you too! Lake Loop is just a little over two weeks away, and we’re relying on passionate participants, like Elena, to help us reach our fundraising goal.
To encourage you to join Elena in going that extra mile, we’re entering everyone who raises $100 or more (in addition to their registration fees) in a raffle to win a fun and festive Margaritaville First-Look bicycle, donated to us by Kent Bicycles. And remember, there are still other great prizes up for grabs for the overall top fundraising individual and team. So, register today and let your friends and family know you’re biking, running, or paddling for a healthier Lake Hopatcong!
