See the award-winning 30-minute documentary by NJN, THE HIGHLANDS REDISCOVERED (2004), which looks at both the science and the history of New Jersey’s portion of this heavily forested region that sits inside the northeastern metropolitan area.  Water quality and quantity are the key benefits of this undeveloped region to the densely populated cities, and the forest habitat is what makes the water clean and plentiful.  Afterwards, join in an open discussion with New Jersey Highlands Coalition Policy Director Elliott Ruga on the Highlands region history and current Highlands issues.

Elliott Ruga, Policy Director, New Jersey Highlands Coalition, has over 25 years of environmental and historic preservation advocacy experience. Working with the Coalition since November 2007, he leads the implementation of media and educational campaigns and provides guidance to groups working to protect Highlands resources. He has a professional background of communications and multi-media production (awarded 2 Emmys), including 17 years at NBC.
