Lake Hopatcong Foundation Scholarships
Starting with the graduating high school senior class of 2015, the Lake Hopatcong Foundation has awarded two annual $1,000 scholarships to young people who plan to pursue college or trade school studies related to the lake environment or experience.
Each is a one-time gift, given to a senior in high school who is a resident (year-round or seasonal) of one of the four towns that border Lake Hopatcong (Hopatcong, Jefferson, Mt. Arlington, and Roxbury). Completed scholarship applications, due in early May, give students an opportunity to describe how their experiences of Lake Hopatcong have shaped the their long-term educational and career plans.
Winners are announced during high school award nights in June. Scholarships are awarded in two categories, each of which relates to the work of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation and its mission:
The Lake Environment
This scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to study environmental science, environmental policy, ecology, or a similar field that focuses on the natural world and environmental conservation.
The Lake Experience
This scholarship is awarded to a college- or trade school-bound student who plans to go into a field that is related to the lake experience, which includes public safety, marine trade, aquatic athletics, or a similar field.
APPLICATIONS FOR 2018 WILL BE AVAILABLE IN EARLY 2018 AND WILL BE DUE MAY 1, 2018
Note: Applications are submitted to the guidance departments at all three local public high schools (Hopatcong, Jefferson and Roxbury), but the scholarship is open to students at any high school, as long as they have a full- or part-time residence in one of the four towns bordering Lake Hopatcong.
