Colleen and Jess Murphy recently hosted a Friendraiser that included folks that knew both of them and some that only knew one of them. Some of the attendees already knew about the LHF and the work we do and, for some, this was their first exposure to us. By the end, everyone made new friends and they had an enjoyable time helping to support the mission of the LHF.
Our Friendraisers are in full swing for 2017! A “Friendraiser” is an opportunity to be with friends, neighbors and colleagues while raising awareness and funds for the Lake Hopatcong Foundation.
The guest list, theme and menu are entirely up to you. A Friendraiser could be a dinner, a “Thirsty Thursday” gathering, BBQ, cocktail party, luncheons, birthday bashes, ladies’ nights, paint and sip parties, a get to wear shorts to the office endeavor and any other clever way you can think to gather a group of fine folks together. Instead of bringing a beverage or a dessert to your party, or in order to wear shorts to the office, folks make a contribution to Lake Hopatcong Foundation.
“As a staff member of the LHF (though I’m currently on leave), I have a bit of a different perspective when it comes to hosting a Friendraiser for the Foundation. Specifically, I know how many hundreds of hours of work go into our official fundraising events! So when we talked as a board about trying this new approach this year, it seemed like a great plan to “outsource” the event planning to those who are passionate about the lake and happy to host friends and family in whatever way they choose. By doing so, we could reach a variety of new people and allow folks all around the lake to support the LHF through parties that feel “just right” to them.
For my sister-in-law Colleen and I, we decided to throw a casual party at my family’s new little lake house on Cow Tongue Point, bringing in her brother Matt to play some live tunes and providing food from an assortment of lake restaurants: Patrick’s Pub, Cambiotti’s, The Windlass, Alice’s, and Little Nicky’s, along with beer and wine.
Our guests enjoyed an absolutely PERFECT summer Sunday on the lake, and were incredibly generous in making donations. Even many of those who couldn’t attend sent in a check or made a donation online! It was exactly the kind of lakeside party I love to attend (or host!), and I’m so glad that we were able to do it in a way that supported all the great work the Lake Hopatcong Foundation does. Knowing that there will be these kinds of shindigs all around the lake this year warms my heart, because there’s nothing better than good company, and supporting a good cause is the icing on top!”
The LHF Foundation wishes to thank Colleen and Jess and all of their guests for supporting the work that we do.
