Happy New Year!
It’s that time of year to reflect on goals and aspirations for the fresh new year. With that spirit in mind, some of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation’s 2015 resolutions include…
Keeping the lake at the forefront of conversations in Trenton.
We are staying in touch with state legislators and trying to ensure that the weed harvest will continue to be funded by the state. (See our state testimony here.)
Paying off the Lake Hopatcong Train Station and working toward its full restoration.
We don’t expect to fully move into the building until 2016, but we plan to devote a lot of time and energy toward the restoration of the station so we can open its doors to the community soon! (See our capital campaign page here.)
Bringing local students to Lake Hopatcong.
We are in the process of planning a set of field trips for local elementary school students, to take place at Hopatcong State Park this spring. The trips will include lessons on watersheds, water quality, history, and more.
Hosting an even bigger and better Lake Hopatcong Block Party!
The second-annual Lake Hopatcong Block Party is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Hopatcong State Park. We hope to build off the success of last year’s event and improve in many areas to make sure this event is once again a true celebration of all things Lake Hopatcong. (Register to join us here.)
Continuing our successful projects and establishing new ones.
In 2015 we’ll be celebrating our third anniversary, and in that short time, we’ve been busy! We plan to continue some of our successful initiatives (updating the LH Guide App with new capabilities, for example) and start some new ones (such as establishing an internship program like the Adirondack’s Lake Stewards, to better inform residents and visitors about how to prevent the spread of invasive species). We are constantly trying to fulfill our mission of improving Lake Hopatcong for all, now and in the years to come.
Keeping the fun in fundraising!
The year ahead will, of course, include fundraising to help pay for all of the LHF projects and initiatives. Over the last couple of years, we have had a diverse mix of events, from a miniature golf tournament to a clay shoot to a gala dinner to a bike ride. This year, we plan to simplify our fundraising schedule and make each event the most fun it can be. Stay tuned!
With a small staff of three employees (one full-time and two part-time) and a relatively short history, we are frequently learning lessons about how to get things done in an efficient and productive way. Of course we have hit bumps along the way from time to time, and we thank you all for your patience as we regularly enter new territory. In this new year, we promise to continue to try to make the Lake Hopatcong Foundation run as smoothly as possible!
Thank you for your support, and looking forward to working together in the new year to make Lake Hopatcong the best place it can be — for all of us, and for future generations.
Cheers to 2015!
