As Lake Hopatcong Foundation staff and volunteers arrived in front of Nixon School on Mount Arlington Blvd. for our annual Adopt-a-Spot cleanup on Saturday, we were welcomed by a light drizzle and a seemingly clean stretch of road. But veteran cleaner-uppers know that appearances can be deceiving, and the energy of newcomers helped motivate us to “dig in” despite the dreary weather.
For our efforts, we were rewarded handsomely with many “treasures” – 19 bags worth! Throw in a five-gallon Poland Spring bottle, some large plastic containers, a pile of plywood, a (fake) diamond the size of a golf ball and a (fake) twenty-dollar bill, and you’ve got one productive and memorable Adopt-a-Spot cleanup on Earth Day!
So, hats off to the seventeen volunteers that joined us on April 22 to clean up our little corner of the world and prevent trash and debris from potentially reaching our lake. We’re grateful, also, to Kellie Anne Keys, the Township of Roxbury, and the Adopt-A-Spot program for their support. This has been a wonderful partnership, going back to our first Adopt-a-Spot cleanup in 2016.
If you’re interested in helping us with future cleanups, be sure to register as a volunteer. We email opportunities to our volunteer interest list, in addition to posting them on our website and in our e-newsletter. See you next year!
