Last month, we launched our “DIVE IN and get creative!” student art contest. Knowing how busy students are with classwork and extracurricular activities, the committee had a modest goal of 50 submissions by the deadline of May 1. Well, we are pleased to report that, as of this writing, we have already received 30 submissions!
Are you a creative student or do you know a creative student in Grades 1-12? There’s still time to submit your artwork! First-place winners in each group (Grades 1-3, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12) will receive $100, and second-place winners will receive a gift card to Michaels arts and crafts store. Winners will be announced at our annual meeting at 6:30 pm on June 8 at the Lake Hopatcong Foundation Environmental and Cultural Center in Landing. An exhibit of all entries will be on display that night and will remain on display through the end of June.
So far, most of the masterpieces we’ve received are at the elementary school level (special shout out to Green Hills School in Andover for sending so many!). We’d love to see equally creative entries from our middle school and high school-aged students! As a reminder, the theme of the contest is “all things Lake Hopatcong”, which includes favorite lake experiences and activities, wildlife, natural beauty, historic and culturally significant places, and ways to keep Lake Hopatcong clean. The most popular entry so far? Sunsets on the lake!
We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank local businesses Ice Factory and Station Hardware for sponsoring this contest. If your business would like to help underwrite and present a prize, please give us a call at 973-663-2500 or email Caitlin@lakehopatcongfoundation.org.
