If you’ve driven past our offices at the historic Lake Hopatcong Station recently, you may have noticed some exciting exterior improvements. These are among the final projects in our restoration journey, which began with the purchase of the station in 2014. We’re excited to share these updates that enhance both the functionality and appearance of this community landmark.
One key improvement is the addition of an auxiliary structure that will provide much-needed storage for programs like our educational field trips and community events like our annual Lake Loop and Lake Hopatcong Block Party. Designed to complement the station’s historic character, this new structure allows for the removal of the temporary storage containers currently on the property, enhancing the overall appearance and functionality of the station site.
We’re excited to unveil our new digital sign, which is already proving to be a valuable communication tool. Located along busy Landing Road, it’s an ideal way to share information about upcoming events, lake news, and important announcements. We look forward to keeping the lake community informed and connected!
The restoration of the terracotta accents on the station is a key effort to preserve the building’s architectural heritage. These intricate details, which have weathered over time, are being carefully repaired to restore their original appearance. We’re proud to help preserve the station’s character and history while ensuring it continues to serve the community in the future.
These projects were made possible by grants from the New Jersey Historic Trust, the Morris County Historic Preservation Trust, the Hyde and Watson Foundation, and by generous donations during Giving Tuesday campaigns in 2020 and 2021.
These updates are a testament to the strength and generosity of the Lake Hopatcong community. Thanks to your support, we are able to care for this important piece of history and use it as a hub for education, conservation, and community engagement. Be sure to stop by and see the improvements for yourself—we’re excited to share them with you!
