Lake Hopatcong is well known for its many recreation opportunities, like boating, fishing, sailing, and more. But many may not realize that Lake Hopatcong also presents many opportunities for passive recreation through hiking a network of trails, including the Lake Hopatcong Trail, which is 12 miles long and growing!
To encourage exploration and enjoyment of all the Lake Hopatcong Trail has to offer, we’ve partnered with OuterSpatial to bring you the Liffy Island Challenge!
The challenge is straightforward. To participate, download the OuterSpatial app to track your hike and check-ins. Start your journey at Prospect Point Park & Preserve. Behind the basketball courts, you'll find the entrance to a section of the Lake Hopatcong Trail. This trail aligns with the James Leach Boardwalk Trail and will lead you to Liffy Island, where you will find stunning views of Lake Hopatcong. The hike is an easy 2-mile trek (4 miles round trip) on mostly packed dirt with some rocky terrain.
Along the way, you’ll check in at four distinct places, by snapping a photo. Check in at all four, and you’ll be automatically entered to win two free seats on an upcoming public eco-cruise aboard our Floating Classroom!
The Liffy Island Challenge is a self-guided challenge that can be completed anytime before June 30, to be in the running to win the prize. It’s a great opportunity to get out and have fun, while helping us raise awareness for the Lake Hopatcong Trail as a great resource for passive recreation.
