A hearty group of 45 volunteers came out on Saturday, April 16, to clean up the Musconetcong River at the Hopatcong State Park location of the Musconetcong Watershed Association's annual river cleanup.
Each spring, the Musconetcong Watershed Association (MWA) organizes a river cleanup that draws hundreds of volunteers to remove trash at various locations along the Musconetcong River, from Lake Hopatcong to the Delaware River confluence. It has become tradition for the Lake Hopatcong Foundation to help coordinate the Hopatcong State Park location.
More than 30 bags of trash along with some larger items, including some barbed wire and a toilet (yep, a toilet), were removed from the river area just below the dam at Hopatcong State Park. Along the entire 45 miles of the Musconetcong River, more than 250 volunteers collected 163 bags of trash and recyclables that could have ended up in the waterway.
Congrats to the MWA and all of the volunteers for a job well done!
