I’m a Lake Hopatcong Foundation member because…

May 07, 2021| Fundraising, People

By: Caitlin Doran

Nearly all my life, I’ve called Roxbury and Mount Arlington and, by extension, the shores of Lake Hopatcong “home.” The Lake - whether I was sitting beside it on a rock at the state park, journal in hand, musing over some fantastic sight, or gliding over it in a canoe on loan from a friend at Shore Hills beach, or zipping across it on a friend’s patio boat, or immersed in it, swimming around the rocky shoreline near a friend’s place on Racoon Island, or often admiring it from my then-home on top of the hill – has always taken up a lot of my heart-space. If you have taken the time to read this, I’m sure you have similarly fond memories and feelings about our lake.

Joining the Lake Hopatcong Foundation and having the role of expanding our membership base, with the goal of having everyone fall as deeply in love with the lake as I have, is something of a dream job. After all, the lake has done so much for me, becoming a member and encouraging others to do the same is the least I can do for it.

That’s why I am excited to invite you to join me as a member of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation. We serve as the full-time advocate for our lake and are deeply committed to protecting the lake environment and enhancing the lake experience, now and into the future, with terrific and effective programs in the areas of environment, education, public safety, recreation, community, arts and culture.

Your 2021 membership contribution allows us to continue:

  • Advocating for the establishment of permanent state funding for New Jersey’s public lakes.
  • Coordinating state, county, and local police on collaborative efforts to create a safer lake.
  • Partnering with local municipalities and the Lake Hopatcong Commission on Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) mitigation and water quality projects.
  • Protecting our lake with aquatic invasive species education and prevention programs, and by working for a more aggressive statewide approach to the issue.
  • Building a vibrant lake community with increased recreational and community event opportunities.

…and more!

I’m a Lake Hopatcong Foundation member because I care deeply about the future of this special place, and I am so proud to be among such a passionate group of people, working for a vibrant and healthy Lake Hopatcong and lake community. Won’t you join me?
