We are excited to announce a limited run of historical cruises on the Lake Hopatcong Foundation Floating Classroom for 2022!
Lake Hopatcong Foundation Board Chair and Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum President Marty Kane will take guests on a nostalgic look at Lake Hopatcong during the post World War II era on the lake - bungalows, second homes, the end of the hotel era, nightclubs, yacht clubs, restaurants, and of course Bertrand Island Park. Lake Hopatcong Foundation Executive Director Kyle Richter will also discuss ways that development and changes around the lake have played a role in water quality over the years.
Come hear stories of yesteryear on Lake Hopatcong during these 90-minute cruises, made possible, in part, by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. All cruises will depart from Hopatcong State Park.
Marty Kane serves as Lake Hopatcong Foundation Board Chair and the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum President. He is the author of several books on local history as well as co-author with his wife, Laurie, of the script for the award-winning documentary Greetings from Bertrand Island.
Tickets are $22 for adults, $18 for children age 17 and under, and $20 for seniors ages 65 and up.
Weekday cruises will depart at 1:30 pm from Hopatcong State Park. The Saturday cruise will depart at 11 am from Hopatcong State Park.
Tickets are non-refundable unless the cruise is canceled by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation due to severe weather or low attendance. If a cruise is not filled to the needed capacity for your selected cruise, we will contact you to reschedule or refund your full purchase price. Cruise cancellations will be announced 24 hours before the scheduled cruise date.
Parking is available at Hopatcong State Park in the designated area shown on this map. DO NOT PARK in the area designated for boat trailer parking only.
A crew member will be stationed in the left corner of the parking lot, near the boat ramp, to direct you to the Floating Classroom.
Guests are encouraged to dress warmly, in layers, and wear sneakers. It is always chiller on the lake than it is on land. The cruises will run RAIN OR SHINE. The boat is covered to provide protection from light weather.
Guests are encouraged to use the restroom facilities at the park before boarding as there are none available on the classroom.
Life jackets are available for all guests and are required for any guests 12 years of age and under.
Please note: There is no entrance fee to Hopatcong State Park for summer 2022.
