It was a packed house for our 7th Annual Meeting on Friday, May 3, and we at the Lake Hopatcong Foundation were thrilled to be hosting this yearly event at the LHF Environmental & Cultural Center, in the former Lake Hopatcong Train Station building. It actually was not our first time hosting our annual meeting in the space, but we had come a LONG way since first welcoming our supporters to the building in 2015, when plaster was falling from the walls and the roof was leaking into our now office!
The meeting was preceded by a two-hour open house for folks to stop in and check out our newly rehabilitated building (and enjoy some refreshments), before we sat down for a 45-minute update on what the Lake Hopatcong Foundation has been up to over the last year, and what we have planned for the future.
The presentation included a number of items to come out of our strategic planning effort last year, which was guided by feedback from the community through surveys and focus groups. In addition to introducing our new logo (designed by the amazing Holly Odgers), we also introduced our new vision and mission statements, and went through the goals and objectives that the LHF board and staff have laid out to achieve in 2019 and in 2020-2022.
We looked back on what had been achieved since the previous Annual Meeting in the various pillars of our mission: environment, safety, education, community, and recreation. We also went over our finances for 2018, what is planned for the weeks and months ahead, and the various ways that those in attendance can support our efforts. One big change that we’ve made in 2019 is a switch from “membership” to general “annual fund” donations, to simplify things for donors and staff. This was explained more at the meeting, but feel free to call Development Director Roberta Schmidt at our office (973.663.2500) if you have any questions.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to learn about where the Lake Hopatcong Foundation stands and where it is headed. It’s always lovely to see so many familiar and new faces, and exciting to think about our next steps together!
