Legislation to Establish the “Lake Hopatcong Fund” Unanimously Approved by the New Jersey Senate

Lake HopatcongThe Lake Hopatcong Foundation is thrilled to share the news that legislation sponsored by Senators Anthony Bucco, Steven Oroho and Joe Pennacchio to establish the “Lake Hopatcong Fund” has been unanimously approved by the New Jersey Senate! The LHF regularly meets with our elected official to keep them up to date with lake issues and to advocate for the lake and for a stable source of funding for its protection and management.

The measure, S-2389, dedicates $500,000 annually to the “Lake Hoptacong Fund” for the protection, preservation, restoration, maintenance, management and enhancement of New Jersey’s largest state-run lake. The funds would come from license fees required to operate power boats on nontidal waters.

“We are very gratified that the measure was approved unanimously,” stated LHF Acting Executive Director Donna Macalle-Holly. “It shows that our legislators understand that Lake Hopatcong is an economic engine for New Jersey and its protection and maintenance is critical. In particular, we would like to extend our appreciation to Senators Anthony Bucco, Steven Oroho and Joe Pennacchio for their efforts and support of Lake Hopatcong,”

You can read more about the bill in this article from the New Jersey Senate and Senator Bucco’s office.

It is our understanding that it is possible the bill will go up for vote in the Assembly on Jan 4, 2018.
