Healthy Kids and a Healthy Environment

children's healthOctober is Children’s Health Month! The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) theme for 2016 is Healthy Communities, Healthy Children.

A great way to join in the celebration at home is to check out the EPA’s Student Curriculum: Recipes for Healthy Kids and a Healthy Environment and share it with a child in your life!

This nine-lesson program is geared toward ages 9-13 years and focuses on appreciating and exploring the environments in which they live and play. Included in the curriculum is a section on “Keeping All of Our Waterways Clean.” This lesson helps children understand the importance of water in their lives and describes the life cycle of freshwater. It also discusses how to keep trash from getting in storm drains and polluting waterways. That sounds like a great lesson to us!
