Deck the Halls…. with Murder?!? Jefferson Community Players is breaking with a decades’ old tradition of performing its holiday offering for Jefferson Township’s annual Christmas in the Village by taking it on the road!
The play, Ken Ludwig’s “The Game’s Afoot; or Holmes for the Holidays,” (presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French) is a treat of a murder mystery farce with a troupe of classics-quoting actors, a manipulative theatre critic, secret love affairs, and a quirky inspector who somehow finds her man – or is it a woman? Which secrets will be revealed during the séance? Will Portia the dog be ok? How much does William Gillette think he really is Sherlock Holmes?
Larry Pelham, President of Dover Little Theatre, graciously offered his stage to the Players when they were seeking an alternative location for a show with special technical needs such as a rotating platform, a working intercom, a recording device, and lots of thunder and dimming lights to heighten the tension between the characters as they question each other about the events of the evening.
The cast is a mix of JCP veterans, all familiar faces in local community theatre including DLT, Pax Amicus, Cornerstone, Brundage, and Northside: Lynda Kolvik, George Fear, Cheryl Sullivan, Ray Ayers and Trish Calhoun; and some talented newcomers: Brianna Johnson, Kristen Andersen, and Rafael Tobal. The director is Players’ President, Susie Wright, who has acted and stage managed on Long Island and the Bay Area before joining northwest New Jersey’s vibrant theatre network, including the children’s theatre Salad City and improv groups Uncorked and the Unprepared Players.
JCP’s run of “The Game’s Afoot…” will be at Dover Little Theatre, 69 Elliott Street, Dover, NJ with showtimes at 8:00 pm for the evenings of Friday, December 13, Saturday, December 14, Friday, December 20, and Saturday, December 21. There is also a 2:00 pm matinee on Sunday, December 15.
