The Rehabilitation of the Lake Hopatcong Train Station
September 12, 2019, 7 pm
The Lake Hopatcong Station is one of the most iconic buildings in our community, linking us with an era when the lake was a great northeast resort and thousands arrived by train weekly headed for their hotel, campsite, or cottage. The building, located in Landing, has lasting meaning for many lake residents, past and present, and has long been a central part of the history of the lake.
From the purchase of the Lake Hopatcong Train Station by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation in 2014, to its present use as the Foundation’s offices as well as an Environmental and Cultural Center, this program will take you through the four-year rehabilitation process with presentations by Lake Hopatcong Historian and Lake Hopatcong Foundation Chairman of the Board Martin Kane and Principal Historic Preservation Specialist Margaret Hickey from Connolly & Hickey Historical Architects.
