The Lake Hopatcong Foundation dedicates itself to protecting the lake environment and enhancing the lake experience, bringing together public and private resources to encourage a culture of sustainability and stewardship on and around New Jersey’s largest lake, for this and future generations.
The Lake Hopatcong Foundation has a strong focus on maintaining and improving the lake environment as the health of the lake affects all facets of the Lake Hopatcong experience. Programs center arond improving water quality and invasive aquatic species prevention.
Water has an impact on our environment, economy, and community. The Foundation is dedicated to understanding Lake Hopatcong’s value as a vital resource and passing that knowledge along to our children, ensuring that it will be carried to future generations.
With four towns, two counties, and the state, all claiming at least some portion of Lake Hopatcong, the community can sometimes feel disjointed. One of the goals of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation is to build the sense of lake community,
The Foundation has developed a multi-faceted approach to improving safety and protection on Lake Hopatcong. Our programs range from a dock numbering program, to signage, to added police patrols, as safety is always of the utmost importance on Lake Hopatcong.
The Foundation is working to improve and enhance recreational opportunities on and around Lake Hopatcong. The centerpiece of our efforts is the Lake Hopatcong Trail, which, when completed, will traverse approximately 40 miles through four towns, eventually encircling the lake.
The rehabilitation of the historical Lake Hopatcong Train Station and subsequent opening of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation Environmental and Cultural Center provides the Foundation will the ability to offer a selection of programs open to the public.
