Our Floating Classroom offers public learning cruises each summer, providing a hands-on exploration of water ecology on New Jersey’s largest lake. Aboard this unique vessel, participants conduct experiments, observe lake life up close, and gain a deeper understanding of Lake Hopatcong and its ecosystem. It’s a fun and engaging way to get on the water and connect with the natural world.
Each eco-cruise offers guests the opportunity to engage in interactive activities, including water clarity testing with Secchi disks and examining plankton collected from lake water samples. Along the way, participants will learn about the local environment, the factors that influence it, and simple ways to make a positive impact. Each cruise leaves guests with a deeper understanding of Lake Hopatcong and a hopeful outlook for the future.
Cruises are open to all ages, though activities are best suited for those 10 and older.
Life jackets are available upon request for visitors above the age of 13. Visitors ages 12 and under will be supplied with a life jacket and required to wear one throughout the cruise.
Eco-cruises run every Monday in July and August from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, departing from Hopatcong State Park. They take place rain or shine, except in the case of lightning. The Lake Hopatcong Foundation will contact ticket holders in the event of a cancellation. Tickets are non-refundable unless the Lake Hopatcong Foundation cancels the cruise.
* Please note, Hopatcong State Park entry fees are not included in your ticket price.
